Circa 1942 Anne Frank WWII Holocaust Icon Who Hid from the Nazis Original 1963 Press Photo Judaica

Anne Frank was a German-born Jewish girl whose diary became one of the most enduring accounts of the Holocaust. Her family hid from the Nazis in Amsterdam from 1942 until their arrest in 1944. Anne was deported to Bergen-Belsen, where she died at age 15 in 1945. Her diary was published by her surviving father, Otto Frank, in 1947.

Offered is an original press photo that measures 5” x 6.5” in size that is the quintessential photograph of Anne Frank that dates to 1942 when she was about 12 or 13 years old.

The original Associated Press paper caption attached to the back reads, “This is the real Anne Frank, a 12-year-old Jewish girl who wrote the famous diary describing how she lived in hiding in an Amsterdam garret in World War II. Anne subsequently died in a Nazi concentration camp.  In Vienna, November 20, a 52-year-old policeman was suspended from duty after admitting he was one of the Nazi officers who arrested Anne and her family.”

This would be considered a Type IV - A 2nd generation photograph (or 3rd or later generation), developed from a duplicate negative or wire transmission, during a later period (more than approximately two years after the picture was taken) by PSA. 

Finding an original TYPE I photo of Anne is an insurmountable task.  Historic!
