Royce Clayton was a slick-fielding shortstop who spent 17 seasons across 11 MLB clubs, debuting with the Giants in 1991 after being a first-round pick in 1988. His finest years came with the Cardinals, where he succeeded his childhood idol Ozzie Smith as the starting shortstop and earned an All-Star selection in 1997. He finished with a .258 career average, 110 home runs, and 231 stolen bases.
