Earl "Dutch" Clark (1906-1978) was one of the NFL's original superstars and an inaugural Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee in 1963. Born in Colorado, he became the first Colorado College player to earn All-American honors in 1928, rushing for 1,349 yards and scoring 103 points. Playing for Portsmouth Spartans (1931-32) and Detroit Lions (1934-38), he was a true triple-threat quarterback who could run, pass, and kick. Clark was All-Pro six times, led the NFL in scoring three times (1932, 1935, 1936), and captained Detroit to the 1935 NFL Championship. Known as "the Old Master," he was considered the last great drop-kicker and had remarkable field vision despite poor eyesight. He later coached in the NFL and was named to the 1930s All-Decade Team.Offered is an 8.5" x 11" typed letter signed on Cleveland Rams (today located in Los Angeles) Letterhead dated November 22, 1940 to Tony Gallovich, who was an 8thround NFL draft pick by the Ramsin 1941 (he played for them for one year before entering WW II) out of Wake Forest.Clark asks him to fill out their information card and return it to him.Gorgesou letterhead and signed by Clark in black steel tipped pen.Incredibly rare piece that additionally comes with the original Cleveland Rams mailing envelope.
