Earl "Dutch" Clark (1906-1978) was one of the NFL's original superstars and an inaugural Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee in 1963. Born in Colorado, he became the first Colorado College player to earn All-American honors in 1928, rushing for 1,349 yards and scoring 103 points. Playing for Portsmouth Spartans (1931-32) and Detroit Lions (1934-38), he was a true triple-threat quarterback who could run, pass, and kick. Clark was All-Pro six times, led the NFL in scoring three times (1932, 1935, 1936), and captained Detroit to the 1935 NFL Championship. Known as "the Old Master," he was considered the last great drop-kicker and had remarkable field vision despite poor eyesight.
