Kenneth Robert Sears (D. 2017), known as Kenny Sears, was an American professional basketball player best known for his time with the New York Knicks in the NBA. Born on August 17, 1933, in Watsonville, California, Sears made a name for himself as a standout forward at Santa Clara University before being drafted into the NBA.

At Santa Clara, Sears was known for his scoring ability, versatility, and smooth jump shot. His success in college led to him being selected by the New York Knicks in the first round of the 1955 NBA Draft. Sears quickly made an impact as a rookie, becoming one of the league’s most reliable forwards. Standing at 6'9" and weighing around 198 pounds, he had a rare combination of size and shooting skill for his era.

Sears’ career was marked by several accomplishments. He became the first NBA player to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated in December 1954, a testament to his popularity and reputation as a star player. Known for his jump shot and all-around scoring, Sears twice earned NBA All-Star honors (1958, 1959) during his career. His ability to hit outside shots made him one of the Knicks' most valuable players in the late 1950s.

After his initial stint with the Knicks, Sears briefly played for the San Francisco Warriors before retiring from professional basketball. He finished his NBA career with an impressive scoring average and was known for his leadership on and off the court.
